Now through late November is the prime season for Fall foliage in Redwood National and State Parks. Trees that for most of the year are hidden by the evergreen conifers now stand out among them. These trees include maple, alder, madrone, cascara, black oak, red huckleberry, hazelnut, chickapin, California laurel (Bay), black cottonwood, birch, California buckeye, and the western burning bush.

There are several scenic drives for viewing the Fall foliage. The Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway through Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, Bald Hills Road to Dolason Prairie, and Alder Camp Road near the mouth of the Klamath River all offer impressive displays of color.

In the north, U.S. 199 and Howland Hill Road through Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park plus South Fork Road in the Smith River National Recreation Area also have colorful foliage.

For those who wish to hike, the Cathedral Tree Trail and the Prairie Creek Trail in Prairie Creek Redwoods and the Mill Creek Trail and the Nickerson Ranch Trail in Jedediah Smith Redwoods offer nice foliage.

USDA named Del Norte County as one of the 5 most beautiful counties in the
continental United States. Extremely rich with a wealth of natural
amenities, sunshine and climate
